Winter of Victory: Interlude #29
A Gathering Storm "Father!" Owen the Brenin blinks away his momentary blindness and looks up to see his son running toward him. Owen stumbles forward briefly but regains his balance in time to catch Rhys. Owen's own heart skipped a beat when his own blood had begun to stream down his face. The Brenin and the other Llwyri had just gathered for their meeting. "Easy now. Are you harmed, Rhys?" Owen lifts the young boy up. He is bigger then a three year old should be and his mind is keeping pace. "I am fine, but Mother was blinded and Aunt Gwen, too." The young boy shows no signs of bleeding or of being blinded. Owen looks at his son in amazement. Calisse is a day's ride away and Gwenllian is attending to the opening of the Ways. That his son is special in ways even the Brenin did not understand is very clear. "Is everyone alright?" Owen asks over his shoulder. He could see several had felt the same things he had; Krelor seems to be helping Teral off the floor and Talvan is discussing the situation with String and Colwyn. Soliquijari is standing beside Briallen on a balcony overlooking a courtyard. Behind them, several members of the Griffon Guard are standing alert, ignoring their own brushes with the phenomena. The two women stare at the sky and then turn to each other. Several of the Llwyri were wiping tears of blood off their cheeks and eyelids. "You should see this," Briallen says, not speaking to anyone in particular. Owen carries Rhys in his arms as he makes his way to the window. The Griffon Guard commander makes sure no threats are present before stepping out of the way. Owen and his son join the two women on the balcony. The sky is dark and it begins to rain, but Owen cannot see anything out of the ordinary. In his arms, Rhys points one small arm towards the sky. "Look, Father!" Owen swivels his head slightly. In the sky, there is an enormous swirling cloud. Lightning flashes through the sky and thunder assaults their ears. Everyone can see that it is anything but natural. "I will find Gwenllian and we shall gather our brothers and sisters to investigate this." Briallen looks briefly to Owen, who nods once, never taking his eyes from the storm. With little effort the woman becomes a hawk and flies away through the increasingly heavy storm. "We should proceed with this meeting," Owen says and walks back inside. His own thoughts trouble him but his son seems unconcerned. Young Rhys allows himself to be carried back to Owen's seat where he contents himself with playing with the torc hanging around his father's neck. Owen watches the young boy carefully for any sign that there was some danger to him. At some point before the meeting actually begins, a messenger reports that the blood and blindness had affected many thousands of people. Rhys turns his head to listen to the news and then seems to nod to himself, quickly turning back to his playing.
